Could write forever about this scene, which is neither perfect, nor subtle, nor clever, but has so outrageously affected me and my own account of poverty, of my parents’ stay in poverty, of relatives and neighbors and friends still treading those grounds to this day…I only wish I had thought of telling myself that we were merely stuck in labor for the birth of “some dewy-eyed child of tomorrow”.
